Dennis Maq Crook wasn't a terribly happy guy. Growing up in Iowa , he'd had his measure of traumatic childhood experiences—maybe more than his share. Later, he developed a physical aversion to alcohol and an immunity to recreational drugs which effectively eliminated the methods he had chosen for anesthetizing himself to life. Then his wife (at the time) started sleeping around.
He became filled with a rage so strong he was out of control. Until a friend told him of a simple prayer in an ancient language. After saying it only a few times, he found himself in a peace deeper than drugs or alcohol had ever delivered. Baffled, Maq had to find out more about this. Thus, he stepped upon his new path that would take him on incredible adventures and provide him with experiences that he couldn't believe—and, at the same time, couldn't deny.

Thus, he stepped upon his new path that would take him on incredible adventures and provide him with experiences that he couldn't believe—and, at the same time, couldn't deny.
That's not to say that life became easier. His journey took him from meeting a wise man well over 100 years old with inexplicable powers, to a new marriage. Then to the University of Wales where he studied marketing and learned, first hand, how discrimination worked. It propelled him from a spiritual community in Pennsylvania to a spiritual pilgrimage in the holy land, one of the few white faces among literally millions of swarthy pilgrims. And it brought him full circle back to Iowa , then Pennsylvania , where he, his wife and their four kids struggled to get by.
Who is Maq Crook? That is for you to discover. What is Maq Crook? That is for you to decide. You may find his story familiar in a strange sort of way. You might find it moving. It can be considered just an adventure in discovery and awareness. Or it could change your life.
When Spirit called Maq Crook, he responded as if he had no choice but to follow. Yet, we all do have a choice. Has something called you to this book? How will you respond?
Back Cover:
Out of the Frying Pan, Into Awareness
If Dennis MAQ Crook were a fictional character, his story would be unbelievable. But he's real, and every event, from childhood rape and adult addiction to profound healing and spiritual pilgrimage absolutely did take place.
He has seen miracles of the sort most people only read about in bibles or fantasy novels and he has endured challenges the likes of which are found in the same sort of books.
While his life and experiences may have taken him to physical, emotional and mental places more extreme than most of us endure, at the same time, his is the story of every person. As such, there is much to be gained by knowing it: Hope, wisdom, and deep insights into how life works.
You can read The Qutbiyyat —When Wisdom Dawns as a metaphor or as a roadmap for your own life. Or you can read it for the sheer fascination of spending some time with a man who is working daily on living the triumph of the human Spirit.
